The Southwest Chief stops in Albuquerque for nearly an hour, so of course I had to run around the city and take pictures. In just an hour, I was struck by the number of murals in the area. They had the familiar color scheme and overall style of Southwest art but with more of an urban bite in content.

“A Little Color Never Hurt”, Antonio Lente

“Sin Un Pasado No Hay Futuro” (Without a Past, There’s No Future). Unfortunately I couldn’t make out the designer’s name, as it was a bit faded.

Detail shot.

Couldn’t find the title for this one (no, it wasn’t on the plaque on the bottom right corner).

“The Mother Road” / “El Camino de Los Caminos”, Joe Stephenson. Here, the “Mother Road” is Route 66.

Loved how he incorporated a vent as part of the airplane design.

“Frutas de la Expresión” (Fruits of Expression), Claire Bain
